The
continuing closure of the Tenley-Friendship Library is
a true loss for our community.
What's going on? The library closed on
December 30, 2004, and the city anticipated being able to
quickly move on renovations. However, we heard that the city
gave a design-build contract to only one firm. In addition
to a proposal that was created without much public participation,
they gave a cost estimate much higher than the original price
the city agreed to.
The
city then canceled the contract, and our library remains
closed with an uncertain future.
We hope the library can be renovated to be a world class
facility and neighborhood gathering place. A
group of us are tracking the library renovation schedule
and exploring possibilities that would help the process.
We are hopeful that the new Mayor and his administration
will support our efforts.
We'll pass any news we uncover.

with this effort, please contact
Rebecca.
