Tenley-Friendship
Library
You may have heard about a proposal to redevelop
the Tenley-Friendship Library by Roadside,
the development company that built Cityline.
We are excited at the possibility of redevelopment
for that important piece of land so close to the Tenleytown Metro
station, and we strongly encourage the city to consider
this proposal and others soon, before we lose our window of opportunity.
The Northwest Current recently ran an op-ed
supporting this idea.
We
support the idea of a mixed use, public private partnership for
this valuable land. If redeveloped, our community stands
to gain new amenities as well as a better library. We are reviewing
the details of this particular proposal and will share our thoughts
on the details soon.
In the meantime,
we hope you'll weigh in on the future of the library. Send
your thoughts to key decision makers, including Mayor
Fenty, the City Council, Chief Librarian Ginnie Cooper, and public
school officials. And tell
us what you think.
Roadside will give two detailed presentations
to the community at upcoming ANC meetings. Their proposal
includes renovations to Janney Elementary School and a residential
building behind the library. We hope you will attend one of the
meetings and learn more about the proposal:

Update on the Akridge Proposal for 5220 Wisconsin
Thank you to all who spoke out for the
future of Wisconsin Avenue at the public hearing on April 12
-- and to the many others who sent letters of support. The
community's support for the Akridge proposal was heard loud and
clear.
Many of us testified at the hearing with a great
variety of messages and reasons to support the Akridge
project. Tom Quinn, a Friendship Heights resident, delivered
the Ward
3 Vision testimony. Thank you for giving up your evenings to
support a great example of what could be along Wisconsin Avenue.
Next step: The Zoning Commission
has asked Akridge for more information on a few aspects of the
proposal. Once the Commission receives the answers, they will vote.
We've heard that the vote could happen as soon as June 11. We will
keep you updated.
